Impressionism

Artistic current

My dear readers,

Impressionism. The pictoral movement appeared around the middle of the 19th century, holding a rich and tormented history. Its name comes from a famous painting by Monet, called « Impression ». It was created in France by a group of artists and provoked a rupture of modern art with academic painting. It is recognized by the use of small paintings, brush strokes apparent and unusual angles of view.

Its influence on all the visual arts is impressive as sculpture, photography, cinema and literature were influenced by this current. Its growth is fascinating and marks a key period in the history of art.

Indeed, when he left, everyone refused to exhibit impressionist works, considering them to be disrespectful of the codes and rules of pictorial art until a group of painters (including Monet, Renoir, Pissarro or Cézanne) created the « Société Anonyme des Peintures, Sculpteurs et Graveurs », which gradually won the favor of the favor of the general public.

Colors and movements

It took more than 30years for Impressionism to be accepted as a current and art by the greatest thinkers and artists of the time. Guy Cogeval, the current president of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie, said in an exhibition about history of fashion that « the Impressionists loved dressing and undressing women ». A proof of the influence on the modern world. Fashion, music and all the visual arts are the magnitude of the impact of this movement.

We can only thank these artists who, thanks to their work and many sacrifices, allow us today to be able to admire in the four corners of the world thousands of works full of emotions and leaving no one indifferent to the Beauty that painting offers us.

My dear readers, Auguste Renoir offered us a meaninful quotation « One morning, one of us lacking black, then used blue : Impressionism was born ».

It’s up to you to make it resonate as you like...

See you soon!
