Vincent Van Gogh at the musee d'Orsay

The Musée d’Orsay

Dear Readers,

This morning, when I woke up, I don’t know why, I was obsessed by a self-portrait of Vincent Van Gogh. Maybe, I have dreamt about it last night, maybe I have heard about it yesterday without paying attention to it… I don’t know why, I wanted to see this canvas. I decided to go to the Musée d’Orsay, to see the masterpiece of the painter, and, obviously, this self-portrait.

By this sunny day, with a light step, I climb the few steps which separate me from the entry of the building. As I know well the museum, I directed myself as soon as I was arrived to the section dedicated to Vincent Van Gogh. I place myself, in front of the canvas, and I observe. I am admiring in front of this genius.

Vincent Van Gogh

Famous actor of the fauvism and illusionism, I often asked a lot of questions about this tortured mind, but audacious. In front of this self-portrait with blue shades, I lose myself into the painter’s glance. I try to guess his feelings, to know what he thought about, what inspired him. I empty my mind, I close my eyes and try to go through the canvas to become, the artist. I try to understand him, I would have so many questions for him, unfortunately, I can’t find the answers…

I continue my visit, stopping myself in front of each masterpiece. The Chambre de Vincent Van Gogh, L’Italienne, La Lotterie… Everything touch me, everything inspire me. I sit on a bench and I try to put myself into his skin, without succeed in. I would like to know more about his live in Holland, his arriving in France, his quest of success that he would never know in his life.

Lost in my minds, I directed myself to the hotel Le Walt. I think about Vincent Van Gogh, his anonymity and his growing notoriety after his disappearance. I leave you, my dear friends, think about those words by Voltaire who said that “The career of the genius is thornier than the fortune’s one”.

See you soon!
